SUMMARY:What Coaches Need to Know about Mental Health - a sharing by Mind HK
DESCRIPTION:What Coaches Need to Know about \nMental Health – a sharing by Mind HK \nJun 8\, 2023 Thur 12:30pm – 1:30pm \nOnline Zoom Conference \n  \nWith its fast-pace and long working hours\, Hong Kong has always been a stressful place and the problem is not helped by the recent COVID-related restrictions and health scares. Anxiety and depressive disorders are the most common mental health issues in Hong Kong\, with 61% of Hong Kong adults currently suffer from poor mental well-being. Nevertheless\, 74% of mental health sufferers do not seek any form of professional help. With these statistics\, the possibility of coaches encountering clients with sub-par mental health is not negligible. \nIt is therefore important for coaches to recognise symptoms of possible mental health issues in their clients and know the various options and support available. To support our coaching community in this regard\, HKICC has invited Mind HK to give us a briefing on the current state of mental well-being in Hong Kong\, important symptoms to look out for in the clients we coach\, course of action for coaches and support available\, and how enrolling in the Mental Health First Aid course can help coaches be better equipped to handle such cases. \nMind HK\nMind HK (Mind Mental Health Hong Kong Limited) is a S88 registered charity (91/16471)\, which launched in 2017. The organisation’s vision is to ensure no one in Hong Kong has to face a mental health problem alone. Through resources\, training\, and outreach campaigns and programmes\, their work helps to raise awareness of mental health and reduce the associated stigma\, with the aim of achieving the best mental health for all in Hong Kong. With existing collaboration and research efforts\, Mind HK is here to support Hong Kong in becoming a global leader and regional model for public mental health. For more on their work\, vision and mission\, please visit www.mind.org.hk. \nSpeaker :\nMs Odile Thiang\nLead Clinical Advisor\n(Training and Anti-stigma) – Mind HK\n \nOdile has been involved with Mind HK since 2016\, and was on the team that officially launched the charity at the 2017 Hong Kong Mental Health Conference. Odile is the lead clinical advisor for the Anti-Stigma Project\, and a trainer. She was involved in the planning of the 2017 and 2020 Hong Kong Mental Health Conferences.\n \nOdile is a Paediatric Nurse Practitioner with over 10 years of experience in child and adolescent care. Her commitment to serving marginalised communities lead her to work on the improvement of mental health care\, and working with survivours of sexual assault and domestic violence as well as vulnerable LGBTQ+ youth. In Hong Kong\, she has focused her efforts on mental health and nursing education. Odile is currently also a Child & Adolescent Teaching Fellow at the HK Polytechnic University School of Nursing\, as well as an Honorary Nurse Consultant at the Hong Kong’s Children’s Hospital. Her extensive experience has allowed her to cultivate a strong focus in paediatric care\, with a unique exposure to child and adolescent mental health \n  \nDate: 8 Jun 2023 (Thur)\nTime: 12:30p.m. – 1:30p.m.\nFormat: Online Zoom (link will be sent out one day prior to event date)\nFee: Free of charge \nFor any enquirers\, please contact Nicholas Wai (nickwai@coachesphere.com) \n  \nSource: https://scopeblog.stanford.edu/2022/11/04/new-visions-for-mental-health-care/
