SUMMARY:Join the Next HKICC Coaching Book Club on 25 Jun 2026 from 6:30pm to 8:00pm
DESCRIPTION:Join the Next HKICC Coaching Book Club \nDate: 25 Jun 2026 | Time: 6:30pm to 8:00pm \nVenue: 3/F\, World Trust Tower\, 50 Stanley Street\, Central\, Hong Kong \nOn 25th June\, Ian invites you to explore Viktor Frankl’s Man’s Search for Meaning – not as a book summary\, but as a reflective conversation about what truly sustains us as coaches\, as parents\, and as human beings. \n  \nWhy This Book\, Why This Host \nFrankl’s core insight – that meaning can be found even in suffering – resonates deeply with Ian’s own coaching philosophy. Frankl spoke of three pathways to meaning: through creative work\, through love and relationships\, and through the attitude we choose toward unavoidable hardship. \nAs coaches\, we often sit with clients who have lost a sense of purpose – in their careers\, their families\, or themselves. And as human beings\, we carry our own questions about what makes the struggle worthwhile. \nIan knows this search personally. He spent fifteen years working across three family businesses — his father’s\, his cousin’s\, and his uncle’s. He first read Frankl in 2017\, in the middle of that journey. But it was only after he left that the book truly opened up for him. \nReading it again\, he found himself resonating with Frankl’s observations from the concentration camp — not because the experiences are comparable in severity\, but because of what they share in structure. In a family business\, as in the camp\, there are many things outside your control. And the harder you try to control them\, the more it works against you. What Frankl offered was a different question entirely — not “how do I control this?” but “what meaning can I find within it?” \nThat shift is what Ian now brings to the sons and daughters he coaches — caught between personal ambition and love for the family\, unsure whether the life they are living is one they chose or one that was chosen for them. \nWhat This Session Offers You \n\n     A safe space to ask: What gives my own coaching work meaning – beyond success metrics?\n     Dialogue about how we support clients who are struggling to find their ‘why’\n     Practical connections between Frankl’s ideas and our work as coaches and as human beings\n     A chance to reflect on a moment in your own life where Frankl’s ideas would have changed how you saw things\n     An honest look at the gap between the meaning we help our clients find and the questions we quietly carry ourselves\n\nBook: Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl \nYou don’t need to have finished the book. You don’t need to be an expert on logotherapy.  You just need to bring your curiosity – and perhaps a question of your own. \nEvent Details: \n📅 Date: 25th Jun\, 2026 \n🕒 Time: 6:30pm to 8:00pm \n📍 Venue: 3/F\, World Trust Tower\, 50 Stanley Street\, Central\, Hong Kong \nFee: Early Bird on or before 11 June 2026 \nHKICC Members : HK$150 (Early Bird HK$120) \nHKICC Members Tickets for 2 (Extra 10% off) : HK$270 (Early Bird HK$216) \nNon-HKICC Members : HK$250 (Early Bird HK$200) \nNon-HKICC Members Tickets for 2 (Extra 10% off) : HK$450 (Early Bird HK$360) \nCome ready to sit with questions that don’t have easy answers – and to discover that sometimes\, the questions themselves are the meaning we’ve been looking for. \n“Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms — to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances\, to choose one’s own way.” – Viktor Frankl\, Man’s Search for Meaning \nHost by \n \nIan Cheng – Family Business Coach\, ICF Accredited \nIan Cheng is an ICF credentialed coach who works with sons and daughters navigating life inside a family business. With a background in engineering and an MBA\, and experience living and working across the US\, Canada\, Japan\, Thailand\, and Hong Kong\, he brings both analytical rigour and genuine empathy to his coaching. \nHis own introduction to coaching came during a period of uncertainty while working in his uncle’s business. A coach helped him clarify his identity\, values\, and strengths. That experience is what brought him to this work. \nIan trained in Solution-Focused coaching through Erickson International and strengths-based coaching through Gallup. \nSign up Here \n

SUMMARY:HKICC Coaching Book Club | August 2026 - Working Identity by Herminia Ibarra on 27 Aug 2026 from 6:30pm to 8:00pm
DESCRIPTION:HKICC Coaching Book Club | August 2026 \nWorking Identity by Herminia Ibarra \nDate: 27 Aug 2026 | Time: 6:30pm to 8:00pm | Venue: 3/F\, World Trust Tower\, 50 Stanley Street\, Central\, Hong Kong \nWhat if you didn’t have to figure out your future before taking the first step? \nMany of us have been taught that career change starts with knowing exactly who we are. Find your passion. Discover your purpose. Then make the leap. \nBut what if it’s the other way around? \nIn Working Identity\, London Business School professor Herminia Ibarra challenges one of the biggest myths about career transition. Rather than thinking our way to clarity\, she argues that we act our way into a new identity. Through small experiments\, new relationships and different experiences\, we gradually discover who we are becoming. \nWhether you’re a mid-career professional considering your next chapter\, thinking about becoming a coach\, or a coach supporting clients through career transitions\, this book offers a refreshing and practical perspective on navigating uncertainty and change. \nJoin us for an interactive discussion as we explore: \n\nWhy “finding yourself” may be overrated.\nHow experimentation creates clarity.\nWhat it means to develop multiple possible selves.\nHow coaches can better support clients through identity transitions.\nPractical ideas you can apply to your own career and coaching practice.\n\nWhether you’ve read the entire book\, just a few chapters\, or are simply curious about the ideas\, you’re welcome to join the conversation. \nEvent Details: \n📅 Date: Thursday\, 27th August\, 2026 \n🕒 Time: 6:30pm to 8:00pm \n📍 Venue: 3/F\, World Trust Tower\, 50 Stanley Street\, Central\, Hong Kong \nFee: Early Bird on or before 13th Aug 2026 \nHKICC Members : HK$150 (Early Bird HK$120) \nHKICC Members Tickets for 2 (Extra 10% off) : HK$270 (Early Bird HK$216) \nNon-HKICC Members : HK$250 (Early Bird HK$200) \nNon-HKICC Members Tickets for 2 (Extra 10% off) : HK$450 (Early Bird HK$360) \nFacilitator \n \nNicholas Wai\nPresident\, Hong Kong International Coaching Community (HKICC) \nCome along for an evening of thoughtful conversation\, fresh perspectives\, and the opportunity to connect with fellow coaches and professionals navigating their own evolving identities. \n  \nSign up Here \n

SUMMARY:An Evening with Henry & House of Self : Hosted by the Hong Kong International Coaching Community Book Club
DESCRIPTION:An Evening with Henry & House of Self \nHosted by the Hong Kong International Coaching Community Book Club \nDate: 23 Sep 2026 | Time: 6:30pm to 8:00pm | Venue : TBC \nWe all have parts of ourselves that want different things. \nThe part that wants to succeed. The part that wants to belong. The part that works hard to keep us safe. The part that knows there may be a more honest\, freer way to live. \nYet when these inner forces pull in different directions\, we often respond by working harder\, becoming more controlling\, or wondering why we feel stuck despite being capable and successful. \nHouse of Self offers a practical and compassionate map for understanding this inner landscape. Drawing on psychology\, coaching\, personal experience\, and the stories we carry\, it explores the patterns that shape how we lead\, relate\, protect ourselves\, and make sense of our lives. \nSome members of the HKICC community may remember an earlier conversation on the House of Self in 2025. Since then\, the work has developed into a completed book: a fuller map of the beliefs\, protective patterns\, wounds\, strengths\, and possibilities that make up our inner world. Whether you joined that first conversation or are encountering the work for the first time\, this is an opportunity to step inside the whole house. \nJoin author\, coach\, and psychologist Henry Chamberlain for an informal evening of conversation\, reflection\, and connection. \nTogether\, we will explore: \n\nWhy our most frustrating patterns may once have been intelligent ways of protecting us\nHow to recognise the inner voices that shape our choices\, relationships\, and leadership\nWhat changes when we meet ourselves with curiosity rather than judgement\nHow greater self-understanding can create more freedom\, courage\, and choice\nWhat this perspective offers coaches\, leaders\, and anyone navigating change\n\nThis is not a lecture\, and you do not need to have read the book. Whether you are a coach\, leader\, HR professional\, curious reader\, or simply someone interested in understanding yourself more deeply\, you are warmly welcome. \nEvent Details: \n📅 Date: Wednesday\, 23rd September\, 2026 \n🕒 Time: 6:30pm to 8:00pm \n📍 Venue: TBC \nFee: Early Bird on or before 9th Sep 2026 \nHKICC Members : HK$150 (Early Bird HK$120) \nHKICC Members Tickets for 2 (Extra 10% off) : HK$270 (Early Bird HK$216) \nNon-HKICC Members : HK$250 (Early Bird HK$200) \nNon-HKICC Members Tickets for 2 (Extra 10% off) : HK$450 (Early Bird HK$360) \nBring your questions\, your curiosity\, and perhaps the part of you that has been waiting to be heard. \nA limited number of signed copies of House of Self will be available\, with a signed-copy lucky draw on the evening. \n  \nSIGN UP HERE
