President's Message
September 2020

Dear members and friends,

Hope you are all holding up well and staying healthy. As the third wave seems to be coming to a close, it’s both disconcerting and reassuring that we have been in this predicament for nine months now and this new normal seems to be sinking in. As surprise, anxiety and anger subside, people the world over come to embrace more acceptance, resolve and resilience (my hope anyway). Until we have a more long-term resolution to this COVID situation, it’s great to see people become more adaptive and creative in carrying on their lives as much as possible and we as coaches continuing to support our clients to adapt the best way they can.
In order to take care of our clients, we also need to look after ourselves as I have recently discovered. With a particularly bad headache last week, I went to see my Chinese doctor and although he did his magic to make it go away, he reminded me to take care of both my physical and mental health, as the headache was the result of persistent subpar sleep quality. This time it really hit the alarm bell hard and it made me very aware of the impact of my prioritising of work over sleep. I’ve since put in place measures to make sure of my 8 hours of sleep, as well as cutting out sugar and caffeine. So the message is, re-examine our daily habits and see what we can do to be more physically and mentally fit. The economic fallout from the COVID situation is probably just beginning and we would need much stamina and energy to support our clients as well as ourselves.
Reporting on the activities of HKICC, Selina has been tirelessly organising a Coach Development event every month and the last one by Leona Wan on Hack the Box has been very well received. We have also started the new Level Up series to support our members in developing their coaching business. It’s still not too late to join as after the successful first session by Dora and Phyllis there are still three more sessions coming up, and you can find the sign-up details below. On another exciting note HKICC has been invited to contribute an article under the banner “Coaches’ Lens” every fortnight to the online version of the iMoney magazine (in Chinese) and the first piece “Finding the Diamond in You” was published on 15/9 written by our VP Coaching Outreach, Education and Advocacy Alvin Ng (https://inews.hket.com/article/2753690?r=cpsdlc). He will be reaching out soon to the membership for article contribution.
In terms of collaboration, I would like to report that Think Broader, the initiative we have created with IACHK and ICFHK to support youth helpers in Hong Kong last year, have recently delivered our first online Think Broader workshop to over 60 student advisors of HKUST in four sessions. With the success of the online delivery after a period of adjustments, we shall start to call on those of you who’ve volunteered to be facilitators at our last Dec launch as we secure more opportunities. Please stay tuned and sorry for the silence.
On another note, with all of our events having moved online, we now have participants joining our events from outside of Hong Kong regularly and as such we are also planning to bring you different learning opportunities from organisations outside of Hong Kong. The first will be the Shanghai Coaching Circle (TSCC) which is a non-profit platform established in 2007 to enhance coaching skills and foster professionalism of its members from around the Shanghai region in monthly speakers or sharing events in English. Their next event will be on Oct 19 on “Search Inside Yourself” and its relevance to coaching. We shall post more information on our Facebook and LinkedIn pages when we further information. Please “like” or “follow” to keep in touch.
On the membership front we are in the process of reviewing how we can better serve you. We are looking at enhancing benefits for our members and growing our HKICC family by spreading the word about our community, support, learning and development culture across Hong Kong and beyond. We will be reaching out for your input in the coming months, and whenever you have ideas for us please do get in touch:  This email address is being protected from spambots. Last by not least, we would like to welcome the following new members to HKICC and thank those who renewed since our last newsletter

New: Benjamin Fong, Carmen Ng, Fatma Madiouni, Jenny To, Linda Chen, Meiling Tsang, Michael Kwong, Montana Chan, Nadine Slater, Samuel Demarais, Siru Heino, Stephanie Kroeker, Tony Williams

As a volunteer-led organisation embarking on a year-long project to refresh HKICC to support you in moving forward, we would like to invite those who appreciate and benefitted from our work to join the HKICC leadership and working committees to bring these worthwhile initiatives into reality. We are currently looking for members to fill various roles but are also open to what you would like to offer. Please write to This email address is being protected from spambots. Thank you and stay healthy.

Warmest regards,

Interim President's Message April 2019

Dear members and friends,

I cannot believe it’s already April and the second quarter of 2019. We at HKICC has been taking on the challenges of creating a more relevant and sustainable community for you. I am happy to report that we have made encouraging progress and anticipating lots more to come.

As President who serves the International Coaching Community in Hong Kong, I feel very strongly about the importance of having a strong and supportive community, as I and my fellow coaches would agree, that we would not be where we are without the support of each other, learning and having fun together, and most importantly the help we get when we face challenges, picking us up to do better all over again.
That’s why we started hosting the Coaches’ Roundtable in February this year for both experienced and novice coaches to share wisdom on a different coaching topic. We have also initiated a Coaching Lab from late March for new Cantonese speaking coaches to support them in their coaching journey. Last but not least, the very popular Let it Shine Series has been enhanced and will be brought back in May this year for those who have learned coaching skills and are looking to learn how to start their coaching careers and businesses.
There’s more:

  • The First HKICC Coaching Symposium “Deep Immersion into the Sea of Coaching” which will take place on April 27, 2019, will bring three wonderful speakers to share with you their coaching specialties.  This will take the place of both the monthly Coach Development for the month and the Spring party we announced earlier. Please see our separate email for details. We are looking for a number of volunteers to help us lead this event better so please contact Selina Wong at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. We welcome and appreciate your participation.
  • Riding on the success of our first Outreach programme for 2019, Stanley Chiu, VP of Public Relations, has secured a very worthwhile pro-bono coaching programme with the Golden Bauhinia Women Entrepreneur Association (GBWEA), coaching their members who mentor underprivileged female university students. We have just met for orientation on April 3.
  • To better understand your needs so we may serve you better, we will be sending you a survey soliciting your input. Please look out for it and be generous with your suggestions.
  • The HKICC Annual General Meeting (AGM) is scheduled for May 2019 and we are very excited about the special speaker we have invited. More details will be available soon.
  • Further ahead, we are thrilled to be joining forces with the International Association of Facilitators (IAF) and the International Association of Coaching (IAC) in late October to bring you a facilitated dialogue regarding the future of learning and development including coaching.

Now a call for help: to effectively execute these activities, we need more hands than the board members and VPs who work tirelessly to build this community for you. Please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if you can spare your time to help build the coaching community:

  • project volunteers for the symposium on April 27 (Sat)
  • membership liaison
  • social media and engagement
  • project management

Please join us in putting our initiatives to work for you, our members and community, learning and growing together.
Starting from this president message we would also like to showcase one of our board members or VPs every time. Our first feature will be on Elsa Tang, our Treasurer and much more:

Interim President's Message Dec 2018

Dear HKICC members and friends,

Looking at the simmering harbour while writing this on a lazy Saturday afternoon, I feel blessed and thankful for this rare moment of peace and tranquillity as we approach the end of 2018, a memorable and eventful year for me. I am very honoured to be the interim President of the HKICC, excited to be married to Vanessa in May, and to top it all off, am expecting a new family member in the coming few months.

As I start thinking about how to get ready for our little one, we at HKICC is also busy thinking about the changes and refinements we need to make to better serve you our members. Trailing on the success of our cosy and warm Christmas Party a few weeks ago (many thanks go to Noor in co-ordinating this, who sadly will be stepping out as VP of Strategic Planning to concentrate on developing her business) , we are planning a first-ever Chinese New Year gathering (tentatively on the evening of Thursday, 21 February 2019 so please mark your calendar) to welcome the Year of the Pig with exciting new initiatives for new and experienced coaches:

  • We will organize the third Let it Shine series, as well as a coaching support group The Coaching Lab for new(er) coaches.
  • Angela Spaxman, first President at HKICC, will lead a HKICC Coach’s Roundtable series for more experienced coaches to share experience, ask questions, and support each other.
  • We will start the latest Community Outreach Project with KELY, a non-governmental organisation which aims to provide support to youths between the ages of 14 to 24. We have to thank our member Eileen Tong as the brilliant project lead and also our past president Carole Lewis who will serve as mentor coach to our coaches
  • Stanley Chiu, newly appointed VP of External Affairs, is committed to promoting coaching amongst different professional and business communities in Hong Kong
  • Additional new and renewed initiatives will include refining Membership Benefits to attract and support coaches

With our many initiatives we are continually looking for passionate and proactive members to be either project leads or VPs to help us better serve your community.  If you are interested or have any suggestions please do let us know.

I look forward to a fruitful year ahead at HKICC, and I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a healthy, rewarding New Year.
