HKICC PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

May 2020

President's Message
May 2020

Dear HKICC members,

Hope you and your families have been healthy and well. Since my last President’s Message in Feb, most of us in Hong Kong and much of the world have seen our plans and routines disrupted without exception. VUCA has become very real and in our face, and I know many of you have been tirelessly helping your clients and fellow coaches to stay grounded and adaptive to better manage the pressure and stress from the situation. We at HKICC have also been tireless in organising various online activities to support you in this challenging time, on topics including disrupting yourself and starting as a new coach in March, and self-care for coaches and online coaching and facilitation in April. In May, we have 2 events that are very relevant to coaching quality: Insights from APAC coaching survey jointly with ICFHK on 19 May, and the first instalment in a new Coaching Intelligence series on Coaching Supervision on 28 May, with peer coaching supervision starting in June. What you can also look forward to are events on the leadership circle, courageous leadership, team leadership, the future of L&D post-covid, and when the situation permits, a social get together. If there is a topic you are interested in, please let us know and we’ll try our best to organise it.

From the strategic planning efforts I mentioned in my last message, I’m glad to report that we have refreshed our vision and mission to be more relevant and encompassing and this will be formally announced at our upcoming AGM in June or July. I’m also happy and grateful to announce that we have just confirmed our new VP of Membership Linda Sim who will lead our efforts in better engaging and supporting you. Many of you probably know Linda already and her brief bio is below. On behalf of Linda, I would like to thank these members who’ve recently joined or renewed their memberships:

New: Cheryl Hornig, Rainbow Chow and Shiela Cancino.
Renew: Amy Fung, Anthony Cheng, Charles Leung, Christine Cheong, Davies Anoush, Dora Leung, Eileen Tong, Lee Wai Lan, Lisa Choi, Mona Lee, Samuel Lau and Selina Wong.

As a volunteer-led organisation embarking on a year-long project to refresh HKICC to support you in moving forward, we would like to invite those who appreciate and benefitted from our work to join the HKICC leadership and working committees to bring these worthwhile initiatives into realities. We are currently looking for members to fill the roles of marketing and secretary, but are also open to what you would like to offer. Please write to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for further details.

Lastly, in the past 2 years we have been supporting the Support and Consultation Centre for Small and Medium Enterprises (SUCCESS) of the Trade and Industry Department of the HKSAR Government in promoting the awareness of coaching among their 30,000 SME members. This year, they would like to again invite one or two of our Cantonese-speaking members to facilitate an afternoon webinar (max 75 mins) towards the end of Q2 and during Q3 on ‘coaching and management of staff during and after COVID-19’ such as “better staff management when working from home” or “from surviving to thriving for SMEs”. If you are a current HKICC member, who is passionate in promoting coaching among SMEs, and have the relevant experience and interest in facilitating either of these topics in a webinar or workshop for SMEs, please write to me with 1) your topic, and 2) brief bio describing your experience in facilitating such topics as soon as possible, latest by this Friday 22 May 2020.

Thank you and stay healthy.

Warmest regards,

Nicholas Wai
