From Questions to Curiosity:

What Happens When We Stay Curious a Little Longer

(26 Mar 2026)

What began as a simple book club gathering to explore Michael Bungay Stanier’s The Coaching Habit became something far richer: an evening of shared discovery, honest reflection, and the quiet power of a well‑placed question.

Hosted by Vipul Malhotra, our second HKICC Coaching Book Club brought together a small circle of coaches and coaching‑minded professionals—not to exchange polished answers, but to experiment with staying curious a little longer. From the moment we gathered, there was a palpable sense of openness: a willingness to sit with uncertainty, to try on new questions, and to learn from one another without pretence.

Rather than summarising the book, he invited us into a series of experiments—meeting our Advice Monsters, practising the seven questions, and tracing curiosity across the domains of team, family, business, and self. The book became more than a text; it became a mirror, prompting deeper reflection on how we show up as coaches, leaders, and human beings. A huge thank you to Maria, Alex, Nicholas, Sam, and Katherine for your willingness to jump in—your energy and authenticity made the space both playful and profound.

Participants left with far more than chapter summaries. They carried:

  • A fresh awareness of their own “Advice Monster” and a few simple practices to tame it
  • A renewed appreciation for the power of one good question
  • New connections with fellow coaches who value authentic conversation over performance
  • A question to carry forward—into their next client conversation, team meeting, or moment of self‑reflection

What Participants Shared

“This is a good framework to have dialogue and community connection. A bit of investment of time and effort — huge returns on learnings.”

“Clarity of purpose turns coaching from wandering questions into focused action — the clearer the why, the easier the how.”

Join the Next HKICC Coaching Book Club

If you are a coach who longs for real conversation, reflective learning, and supportive community, we warmly invite you to join our next gathering.

Hosted by Alex Fong on 7th May, we’ll be exploring Carol Dweck’s Mindset — not as a summary, but as an invitation. Alex will challenge and invite us to reflect deeply on the mindsets we bring to our coaching, our clients, and ourselves. Expect honest dialogue, fresh perspectives, and the kind of connection that only happens when coaches come together to learn, not to perform.
