Join the Next HKICC Coaching Book Club

Hosted by Angela Spaxman –

Leadership and Career Coach, Founding President of HKICC

Date: 15 Oct 2026 | Time: 6:30pm to 8:30pm | Venue : TBC

On 15th October, Angela invites you to explore Sarah Wilson’s new book I Eat the Stars. – not as a book summary, but as a reflective conversation about what truly matters to us as coaches and as human beings as the world we have known falls apart.

Why This Book, Why This Host

We are faced with a contradiction. Humans have known for several decades that the dominant way of living on earth is unsustainable, and yet we don’t change. As someone with a view to the future, this contradiction has been poking in Angela’s side for a long time. How can we fully support clients to move towards their own deepest aspirations when the coming end of our global system is an unspoken elephant in the room?

This book provides a palpable relief in the way it clearly and confidently describes how we are undergoing what every complex civilization before us has—systemic collapse. And then with tenderness, compassion and wisdom, the author walks with us through the reckoning we must come to, sooner or later.

As coaches, we support our clients to move towards their goals through our listening and through our perspectives. Angela has carried these perspectives, often silently, and sometimes through questions or stories, in coaching sessions with corporate leaders, working parents, entrepreneurs and more. She is eager to learn together with fellow coaches towards equipping ourselves to support ourselves and others through this massive transition.

What This Session Offers You

  • A safe space to ask: What approach do I want to take as the world falls apart in ways that are very hard to handle?
  • Honest dialogue about how the state of the world affects conversations with our clients, friends and family.
  • Practical connections between Sarah Wilson’s ideas and the lives we are living.
  • Community reflection on how the crises of systems change show up in our personal lives, our businesses and our society.

You don’t need to have finished the book. You don’t need to be an expert on climate change or civilizational change. You just need to bring your curiosity – and perhaps a question of your own.

Speaker

Angela is driven by an insatiable appetite to understand the way the world works. She has been learning through her coaching clients for more than 25 years, specializing in leadership development and mid-life career change. She also feels very connected to nature. She is an explorer of backwoods, especially in Hong Kong. Her first career was as a forest engineer in coastal British Columbia, Canada. In search of understanding and resolution, she is constantly studying the long trends and the root causes of human behaviour individually, organizationally and over the whole planet. In order to cultivate the inner calm that looking at the truth requires, she practices relational mindfulness and collaborates with the Insight Dialogue Community to offer restorative spaces for deep investigation and insight.

Come ready to sit with questions that don’t have easy answers – and to discover how just being together in the difficulties can provide restorative support.
