Coaching Beyond the GROW Model
Part Two Recap
(24 Sep 2025)
On 24 September, we held Part Two of the Coaching Beyond the GROW Model series with Henry Chamberlain and Steve Wu. Due to the typhoon in Hong Kong, the workshop was moved online—but the virtual setting did nothing to diminish the impact or passion of the facilitators.
Building on Part One: The Hero’s Journey, this second session invited participants to explore The House of Self—a model developed by Henry to help coaches understand the conscious and unconscious architecture of the self. Through stories, clear teaching, and guided reflection, participants mapped their own “inner houses,” discovering how roles, beliefs, and protective parts influence their coaching presence and personal growth.
The facilitators connected the model to the Hero’s Journey, showing how coaches often “refuse the call” or avoid deeper growth because of limiting beliefs, self-doubt, or the fear of discomfort. Yet, as the session illustrated, every person also carries the innate qualities of Self—courage, compassion, confidence, clarity, creativity, connectedness, calm, and curiosity—and by turning inward with awareness, they can access these resources to move forward on their own journeys.
Despite the short duration of the two-part series, participants described the sessions as provocative, insightful, and deeply practical—leaving not only with a greater understanding of their own inner landscapes but also with concrete ways to bring this awareness into their coaching practice.
